He brings the energy, knowledge and appreciation of our state and university that is valued by all of us,” Anderson said. “His knowledge of the current college football landscape, learned by coaching across the nation, is needed and wanted at ASU. He will care at the highest level about our state, our alumni, our former players and every single group that is important to help us win. We look forward to working with him and all Sun Devils in making his staff successful and helping our program reach our goals.” “Kenny Dillingham knows what it takes to be an elite program, and he has enjoyed success each time he joined a program,” added President Crow, “His offenses are dynamic, and he understands recruiting, the importance of NIL, and the need to connect with Sun Devils past and present. We are committed to athletic success, and Sun Devil Football is an important part of the success of the university. We are excited to welcome Kenny home.” A Valley native raised in Scottsdale and a 2013 graduate of Arizona State (Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies/Business and Communication), Dillingham returns home heralded as one of the bright and most innovative offensive minds in college football and one of the most promising young coordinators in the FBS. It marks the first time in Sun Devil Football’s modern era that a graduate has been named the head coach. “It is an honor and a privilege to be named the head coach at Arizona State University. This is a special place to myself and my wife who is also a graduate. I truly believe the team we will build here is one that the state of Arizona and all Sun Devils can rally behind and be proud of as it will take everyone in the valley to help this program achieve the level of success it is due. I am excited to get to work and promise no one will work harder than the staff we will put together.“ Dillingham returns to Tempe after building his resume with a track record of impressive tenures at Memphis, Auburn, Florida State and most recently as the offensive coordinator at the University of Oregon. At Oregon, he is a nominee for the 2022 Broyles Award, presented annually to the top assistant coach in college football. 9 01.01.2025 | ATLANTA, GA 2025 BOWL GUIDE ARIZONA STATE FOOTBALL MOUNTAIN AMERICA STADIUM • TEMPE, ARIZ. TEMPE, Ariz. – A new era of Sun Devil Football commenced Saturday evening at Mountain America Stadium, and second-year head coach Kenny Dillingham’s squad was in complete control throughout a 48-7 thrashing of Wyoming in the 2024 season opener. In their first game as members of the Big 12 Conference, the Sun Devils (1-0, 0-0) came out of the gate in dominating fashion, pairing a steady offensive attack with a smothering defensive outing against the Cowboys. Sam Leavitt, one of 60 newcomers for the Sun Devils this season, moved the offense with ease all night in his first career start, scoring on five of the first six drives. He ended the night with 258 yards and two scores on 14-for-22 passing, connecting with both Chamon Metayer for a 25-yard pitch-and-catch and Kyson Brown on a 68-yard screen for his first pair of touchdown passes in Tempe. Second-year defensive coordinator Brian Ward dialed up a flawless game plan to contain the Cowboys offense. Just two plays into the game, linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu intercepted a pass from Wyoming’s Evan Svoboda, returning it for a 29-yard touchdown. It marked the Sun Devils’ first pick-six in nearly two years and the 23rd since 2012. Svoboda’s pass on 3rd-and-23 on the ensuing drive sailed into the arms of linebacker Keyshaun Elliott, helping pave the way for an Ian Hershey 29-yard field goal to give the Sun Devils a 10-0 advantage. Later in the third quarter, defensive end Justin Wodtly scooped up a botched backwards pass from Wyoming, returning it for a six-yard score, giving the Sun Devils their first game with two defensive touchdowns since Nov. 21, 2015. In six first-half drives for Wyoming, the Cowboys were intercepted twice, punted on four straight series and had a trio of three-and-outs. They mustered just 53 yards of offense and failed to advance past their own 41-yard line. A team that threw just six interceptions last year, the Cowboys were picked off in each of their first two possessions. They found the end zone in the final two seconds of the game, but the Sun Devil defense was unabating on Svoboda, holding the Cowboys to 118 total yards, eight first downs, a 3-for-13 clip on third downs and less than 23 minutes of possession time. 10 PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL | CHICK-FIL-A PEACH BOWL 2025 BOWL GUIDE ARIZONA STATE FOOTBALL MOUNTAIN AMERICA STADIUM • TEMPE, ARIZ. TEMPE – A week after a 41-point win in the season opener, Sun Devil Football racked up 357 rushing yards against Mississippi State in a 30-23 win on Saturday night at Mountain America Stadium. The result moves ASU to 2-0 on the season and its the first time have won two straight over FBS opponents to begin a year since 2018. Cam Skattebo led the way with a career-high 262 rushing yards, the second-most by a Sun Devil in a game in program history. Skattebo led all receivers with 35 yards receiving and finished with 297 all-purpose yards. Sam Leavitt was also effective on the ground, tallying a career-high 68 rushing yards and securing two rushing touchdowns in the win. C.J. Fite recorded his first career touchdown on a 1-yard fumble recovery. “We had the ball consecutively for about 14 minutes in the middle of the game. And that’s unbelievable management by our offensive coaches and our offensive staff to keep their offense off the field for that long and get 10 points.” said head coach Kenny Dillingham. “For us to get hit back in the mouth and then have to get up, that’s what I was proud of. We got up with a vengeance and we needed that because we’re not going to have 17, 24-point leads every halftime. We’re going to be in some dog fights, and we have to be able to go back and forth with counter-punches.” Defensive Coordinator Brian Ward’s defense picked up where they left off in week one by forcing a Mississippi State (1-1) three and out to start the game. Putting Leavitt and the offense in action, where the Sun Devil ground game dominated the line of scrimmage, ending with a Leavitt 17-yard rushing touchdown, his first of his career after faking out the Bulldog defense, giving the Sun Devils an early 7-0 lead. Arizona State rushed for 58 of the team’s 79 yards on the opening drive. The defense remained in control, forcing another Bulldog punt after sacking Mississippi State’s quarterback for the first time in the game. On the ensuing possession, the Sun Devils ran for 51 of the team’s 60-yard, 12-play drive, capping the drive with a 20-yard Ian Hershey field goal to put ASU ahead 10-0 after the first quarter. Mississippi State responded with a 32-yard field goal, after the Arizona State defense kept the opposition out of the end-zone, maintaining a 10-3 lead. The Sun Devils then countered with a 47-yard field goal by Hershey, extending the lead back to 10. Through three games in 2024, in Kenny Dillingham’s second year at the helm with the starting quarterback one of 60 newcomers, the Sun Devils remain unbeaten. They traded punches with Texas State at UFCU Stadium and were propelled by a steady Sam Leavitt and late heroics from the defense to emerge victorious, 31-28, on Thursday evening. It marks ASU’s first 3-0 start since 2019. “That was awesome,” Dillingham said postgame. “It really was. It’s very, very good for our football team to win that game. To be in a game like that, come out on top and make the play when it mattered, it just gives confidence in those moments for our guys. It’s a good building block for us.” Down 21-7 in the second quarter, the Sun Devils matched Texas State’s tempo with a pair of touchdowns within four minutes to draw even at the half. After both teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, the Sun Devils regained their lead via Ian Hershey’s 22-yard field goal early in the fourth, made possible by a forced fumble by defensive back Shamari Simmons. Justin Wodtly recovered on the Bobcats’ 28-yard line, and Hershey gave the Sun Devils their first lead since the first quarter just four plays later. “Best feeling in the world,” Simmons said postgame about the team’s 3-0 start. “I’m in the clouds right now. I want to go undefeated this season, and we definitely have the team to do that. Once again, just focusing on what we have to do. I don’t see more teams that are more talented than us, I just feel like every game it’s our preparation and how we execute.” The Bobcats were denied by the Sun Devil defense on their next possession, as Xavion Alford intercepted a deep ball from Texas State’s Jordan McCloud. The Sun Devils again held their ground in the Bobcats’ final possession of the night, forcing a turnover on downs from inside their own territory. A clutch first down scamper on 3rd-and-8 from Cam Skattebo put Leavitt and the offense in victory formation to close out the game. As the offense navigated rough waters in the second half, the Sun Devil defense held their ground and delivered key moments when needed. In addition to the two fourth-quarter turnovers, the Sun Devils also racked up eight quarterback hits and six tackles for loss. 15 01.01.2025 | ATLANTA, GA 2025 BOWL GUIDE ARIZONA STATE FOOTBALL JONES AT&T STADIUM • LUBBOCK, TEXAS ASU 22, TEXAS TECH 30 GAME 4 9.21.24 LUBBOCK, Texas – Sun Devil Football couldn’t catch Texas Tech in their Big 12 Conference opener, falling in their first loss of the season, 30-22, in a back-and-forth contest on Saturday afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium. The Sun Devils played catch-up for much of the ballgame as they were mired in their own mishaps, attempting to erase three separate 14-point leads by the Red Raiders. A 17-10 deficit at halftime had the Sun Devils within striking distance, but the offense came up empty on four of six second-half possessions. A late Cam Skattebo threeyard touchdown run trimmed Texas Tech’s lead to just eight, but the ensuing onside kick attempt was not successful. The Sun Devils, who outgained Texas Tech, 376-334, missed out on a bid for their first 4-0 start since 2016. “Unfortunately, that was, I think, our first game since I’ve been here that I can say we were undisciplined. We’ve got to get that fixed,” head coach Kenny Dillingham told reporters following the Sun Devils’ first loss in 301 days. “Right now, we’re not completely in sync like we were in Weeks 1 and 2.” Both teams endured a sloppy opening 30 minutes which included 15 total penalties, a 5-for-13 third down conversion rate and numerous self-inflicted wounds by the Sun Devils. Texas Tech opened the contest with a 10-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in a 5-yard pitch-and-catch from Behren Morton to Johncarlos Miller II for an early 7-0 edge. Morton, who entered the afternoon having led the Big 12 and was ranked second in the FBS with 10 passing touchdowns, found a groove early, going 4-for-6 with 52 yards on the opening drive. After Sun Devil quarterback Sam Leavitt was intercepted on the opening drive, the Red Raiders landed another punch and doubled their lead when Morton zipped a screen pass to Josh Kelly, who followed blockers into the end zone for a 20yard score. After amassing just 47 yards in the first quarter, the Sun Devils got on the board early in the second via the right foot of Ian Hershey, who booted a 34-yard field goal to cut into Texas Tech’s lead. And when they needed him most, seeking one last right hook to bury the Jayhawks in front of a sellout crowd of 54,639, the Sun Devils turned to their workhorse. Down 31-28 with under two minutes remaining from their own 34-yard line, it was Cam Skattebo who ignited the spark the Sun Devils needed with the game hanging in the balance. En route to 182 yards on 25 carries, Skattebo ripped off a clutch 39-yard run to position the Sun Devils within the Jayhawks’ 30-yard line as the clock ticked away. After that, it was the redshirt freshman quarterback who took over in Sam Leavitt, who kept it for a 10-yard run to put the Sun Devils in the red zone. A couple of plays later, and with just :16 remaining, Leavitt connected with Jordan Tyson on a 3-yard score to jump ahead, 35-31, for the final time of the contest.

Arizona State (5-1, 2-1, Big 12) earned its first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 6 Oregon during the 2019 season by forcing Utah (4-2, 1-2 Big 12) into three turnovers and making them kick field goals on three of the Utes’ four trips into the red zone. “I think the biggest thing today is when you look at the rushing statistics, we ran the ball decent,” ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham said. “We stopped the run decently versus a program where that’s their identity. And listen, I would love to say this one win puts us on that level and gives us that consistency but it doesn’t. ASU went 66 yards on six plays on its first possession to grab the early lead on a Cam Skattebo two-yard run and had early momentum after a Keith Abney interception, but the Bearcats capitalized on an ASU turnover deep in Sun Devil territory and then scored on four of its next five possessions to take a 24-7 halftime lead. ASU 42, OKLAHOMA STATE 21 GAME 8 11.3.24 STILLWATER – Cam Skattebo accounted for more offensive yards than the entire Oklahoma State offense as Sun Devil Football weathered over two hours of lightning delay to down the Cowboys, 42-21, on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla. The Sun Devils (6-2; 3-2) put up their first 500-yard offensive performance of the season as redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt had his first career 300-yard passing game, completing 20-of-29 for 303 yards and three touchdowns with no picks. Skattebo added 274 yards of total offense - compared to 270 total yards for the Cowboys - and Arizona State scored 28 unanswered after Oklahoma State tied the game at 14 in the second quarter to turn things into a rout in the second half coming out of the weather delay. ASU forced a punt out of possibly the longest halftime in football history – a two-hour and 38 minute lightning delay – and then drove 61 yards in eight plays in 5:19 to take a 28-14 lead. Another Cowboy punt and nine plays and 88 yards later, Skattebo scored another touchdown and ASU led 35-14 with just over 14 minutes left. A fourth-down stop and another Kyson Brown touchdown put the game away. Skattebo rushed 23 times for 153 yards and a touchdown and added four receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns in one of the most prolific offensive efforts for a Big 12 running back in nearly 30 years, becoming one of just six league backs to rush and receive for over 100 yards since the 1996 season. Brown scored the first two rushing touchdowns of his ASU career as he added 63 yards on the ground. Jordyn Tyson added eight catches for 81 yards and a score. The Sun Devil defense held 2023 Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon to just 25 yards on the ground while limiting OSU to just 84 total rushing yards as ASU outgained the Cowboys, 529-270. ASU closed the first half with a clinic, going on a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that took 5:06 off the clock and led to a 21-14 halftime lead. The Maroon and Gold made it 14-7 with a 50-yard catch and run to Skattebo on a 4th and 1 in the second period, but the Cowboys bounced back to tie it at 14. The Sun Devils took the opening kick and went 75 yards in eight plays in just under four minutes that was capped off by a Sam Leavitt to Jordan Tyson 22-yard touchdown pass. A 29-yard run by Cam Skattebo on a short third-down was the big play on the drive, as Leavitt also completed a third-down 12-yarder to Tyson to start the drive. Trailing 31-28 with just under five minutes remaining, Leavitt found Jordyn Tyson for the game-winning 13-yard score, his second touchdown reception of the night, that gave the Sun Devils the decisive 35-31 lead. The Sun Devils converted after piecing together a crucial nine-play, 75-yard drive after regaining possession from a Knights’ missed 46yard field goal attempt. “It’s an unbelievable connection right now,” head coach Kenny Dillingham said postgame of the young Sun Devil connection. “Sam (Leavitt) knew they were in cover one on the one scramble. He knew Jordyn got locked up originally on the release so he bought some time and then knew there was a one-on-one in the corner, launched it, gave him a jump ball and great job by him going to get it. That’s what JT does, he goes and high points the football as good as anybody I’ve been around. JT has two more years, Sam has three more years. All three of Leavitt’s touchdown passes came in the first half as the Sun Devils built a 24-0 lead. Jordyn Tyson hauled in two of those scores while setting career-highs with 12 catches and 176 receiving yards. ASU got the first big play when Shamari Simmons tipped the ball to Xavion Alford on the second play to force ASU’s tenth interception of the season. ASU went 49 yards in six plays as Leavitt found Tyson in the deep corner for an 11-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The Sun Devils extended the lead to 14-0 after going 67 yards on 11 plays, capped by a 30-yard laser to Tyson from Leavitt early in the second quarter. After Simmons forced a Kansas State fumble on the ensuing possession, Chamon Metayer took a screen pass 16 yards for a 21-0 Sun Devil lead. K-State was in position to score late in the half before a bobbled snap on a field goal attempt resulted in no points on a 60-yard drive that took over seven minutes and allowed ASU to take that 21-0 lead into the half. Coming out of the half, ASU went seven plays and 46 yards, taking four minutes off the clock as Parker Lewis hit a 47-yard field goal to give ASU a 24-0 lead. Kansas State got on the board late in the third quarter when Avery Johnson rushed 10 yards to cap a six-play, 78-yard drive. The Wildcats’ attempt for two was denied, and the ASU lead sat at 24-6. The next ASU drive ended in a punt, but not before they took another five-plus minutes off the clock. However, K-State went 90 yards in four plays, and Joe Jackson scored on a 4-yard rush with a successful two-point conversion, had the Sun Devil lead at 24-14 with 11:26 remaining. ASU followed by taking nearly six minutes off the clock and flipping the field with a Kanyon Floyd punt that ended inside the Wildcats’ 10-yard line. The Sun Devil defense forced K-State into another missed field goal. After another ASU punt, Simmons intercepted Johnson in the end zone to clinch victory for the Sun Devils. With the Cougars trailing 28-23 in the final two minutes of the game, BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff intended to hit Darius Lassiter on a quick slant, but instead found Robinson, who returned it deep into Cougar territory. The biggest play of the game, in the most meaningful game the Sun Devils have played in Tempe this past decade, halted the Cougars’ most potent threat as the game hung in the balance. The Sun Devils, who took more than a minute off the clock on their ensuing four plays, turned the ball over on downs with just :01 left on the game clock. The Cougars attempted a hail mary from their own 49-yard line, but Retzlaff’s pass fell short, sealing a thrilling 28-23 win for the Sun Devils and an undefeated home slate (6-0) for the first time since the 2004 season.

46 PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL | CHICK-FIL-A PEACH BOWL 2025 BOWL GUIDE ARIZONA STATE FOOTBALL ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY On Feb. 8, 1886 — almost 30 years before Arizona was granted statehood — the Territorial Normal School, Arizona’s first higher education institution, opened its doors to 33 students in a fourclassroom building in Tempe. Today, Arizona State University offers high-quality, nationally and internationally recognized programs on five metro Phoenix campuses, the Colleges at Lake Havasu and at learning centers across the state. From humble beginnings, and through a series of name changes that led to a 1958 vote of the people and a 2-to-1 margin of victory for the advancement of Arizona State College to Arizona State University, ASU’s century-plus trajectory has led to its being recognized as the “most innovative” university in the country by U.S. News & World Report — three years in a row. In 1937, the Arizona State Teachers College offered its first graduate degree, a master’s in education. Today, ASU’s nationally ranked Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is a leader in teacher education, excelling at both teacher preparation and academic research while creating knowledge, mobilizing people and taking action to improve education. In 1945, the Arizona State Teachers College became the Arizona State College, receiving authorization to grant bachelor’s degrees. Today, ASU offers more than 350 undergraduate degrees and 400-plus graduate degrees across 17 college and schools and ASU online. Arizona State College became Arizona State University in 1958, recognizing the longstanding efforts to advance the fastgrowing college. The measure – Prop 200 – was passed by the state’s voters in a 2-to-1 margin. In 1988, ASU established America’s first residential honors college. Barrett, The Honors College has been ranked by Reader’s Digest as No. 1 honors college in the nation and the New York Time recognizes it as “the gold standard” among the country’s honors programs. Arizona State gained Research I status in 1994 from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is today recognized by the National Science Foundation as the fastest-growing research university in the U.S. Michael Crow became the university’s 16th president in 2002 and unveiled his vision for a “New American University”. Since 2002, ASU has established more than a dozen new transdisciplinary schools and launched large-scale research initiatives and innovated programs in humanities and social sciences. During Crow’s tenure, ASU has nearly quadrupled researched expenditures and completed an unprecedented infrastructure expansion. ASU and the City of Phoenix announced a transformative partnership for the development of the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus in 2005. Opened for classes in 2006, today the campus offers degree programs across seven colleges and schools. ASU also opened the first comprehensive degree-granting School of Sustainability in the U.S. in 2006. In what may have been the largest U.S. graduation in history, sitting U.S. President Barack Obama delivered the May 2009 ASU commencement address. “The commitment at an institution like ASU, which is diverse and gives opportunity to all, that’s the hallmark of real success,” he told a crowd over 70,000. ASU announced the Obama Scholars program, an expansion of the university’s key student financial aid program. Today, more than $200 million has been invested in the program and nearly 2,500 Arizonans have graduated as Obama Scholars. The 2016 school year marked a monumental time in ASU history as the university faculty had 10 awarded the coveted Fulbright fellowship, the most among U.S. Universities. Additionally, ASU earned Top-10 recognition as a leading U.S. university for graduate employability, according to the Global University Employability Survey. ASU is designated as a top-50 tier recruiting university among the country’s top 50 corporations.
